Expanding the Circles
29 August to 4 September 2018
Sydney, NSW, Australia
- Want to engage with Adventure Therapy, and learn how it could enhance your professional practice and have a positive impact on your clients?
- Are you curious about this dynamic field of work and want to learn more? Then the 8th International Adventure Therapy Conference (8IATC) could be for you.
Held in Sydney, NSW, the 8th International Adventure Therapy Conference (8IATC) will bring together people from diverse cultures and subcultures for an intensive time of celebration, inspiration, development, experiential learning, delicious food and networking.
The 8IATC is reaching outwards with a theme of “Expanding the Circles” to build links with allied fields such as social work, youth work, youth justice, programs for and by first peoples, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, and other sectors supporting people in innovative and effective ways. The conference will explore how adventure, nature, traditional practices, and therapeutic processes can create a rich set of opportunities for healing and growth for a wide range or participants.
Delegates from within the existing adventure therapy community and from adjacent fields are invited to reflect on their cultural and professional origins, and re-imagine their contemporary knowledge and expertise in the light and landscape of ancient place-based practices.
A strong and growing body of research evidence supports the benefits of Adventure Therapy for wide-ranging target groups. In Australia, this field of practice has come to be called Bush Adventure Therapy, highlighting the importance of the natural environment and a careful use of small groups within the therapeutic application of adventure experiences for participants.
The 8IATC will share a wide range of experiences and sensations, from plenary speakers to small-group interactive workshops, along with seminars, experiential sessions, posters, interest group meetings and physically active groups.
Special rates available until end January 2018.
